The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost), in partnership with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) released a commemorative stamp and first day cover commemorating the 50 Anniversary of Metro Manila Film Festival on December 21, 2024.
The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is an annual film festival organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority that are focused on Filipino produced films. Prior to this festival, it first started in 1966 and was known as the “Manila Film Festival” where throughout the 12-day event, only locally produced films are shown from the time when only American films were shown. It was discontinued in 1973 due to Martial Law but was revamped to include the other cities and town into “Metropolitan Films Festival” in 1975 and finally, the “Metro Manila Film Festival” in 1977.
The festival runs from Christmas Day (December 25) to New Year’s Day (January 1) and is known for its float parade featuring filmstars and prestigious awarding nights.
The MMFF 50 Anniversary Stamp and First Day Cover will be available at the Philatelic Division of the Manila Central Post Office.
